Welcome to Southsea Sub-Aqua Club's web site, the online home of one of the most active diving clubs on the South Coast.
Southsea Sub-Aqua Club's main aim is to provide facilities, opportunities and an environment that encourages people to go diving safely. We are fully equipped with our own club house, scuba equipment, boat, compressors and a dive programme that has something for everyone all of which allows divers the opportunity to develop their skills and experience. We are also keen to offer the opportunity for people to learn to dive, or just try the experience for the first time – A ‘Try Dive’ can be arranged for anyone interested in ‘taking the plunge’.
We are a branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), the largest dive club in the world and the governing body for British recreational scuba diving. BSAC training is internationally recognised and tailored particularly to diving in UK waters. Whilst it is not obligatory to join BSAC but most members do as the benefits are convenient and inexpensive. BSAC membership includes third party insurance which is a requirement for diving and training with the club. For more information about the British Sub-Aqua club visit http://www.bsac.com/.
We are not a commercial organisation – simply a group of divers from all backgrounds who share a passion for scuba diving. We run on a non-profit basis, no one gets paid and we are dependent on the volunteer efforts and good will of our membership. Being one of the first BSAC branches we have an unrivalled history as a club which has contributed in many ways to diving and exploring our undersea world.
Within the club you'll find all manner of divers, from all levels of sport divers, re-breather and Trimix divers, through to our newest members learning to dive in the pool. We also cater for all interests – marine conservation, wreck diving and wreck investigation/archaeology, underwater photography and other specialist activities.
The Club enjoys a rich and varied social calendar. Having our own Club House, with a well-stocked bar, allows us to hold social evenings at the Club. Events such as parties, talks, quizzes and charity events are regularly held throughout the year.
Please browse through the sections of our web site to see what we have been doing, what we have planned and how we may help you to go diving.

Marvellous Manacles in March!
SSAC's first club trip of the year to Cornwall was a huge success. Staying in nearby Flushing Cove and venturing out with our dive RHIB 'Alan Blake' the cold but calm waters of the Manacles reef provided excellent diving with visibility typically between 6 and 8m. The Manacles reef is renowned for its wrecks and marine life and provided some first class diving despite being early in the season. The jewel anemones were particularly beautiful.
What a beautiful spring! This is March 2013.

First Aid Training - Spring 2013
|
Southsea's club house was again hosting diver training. On Thursday 7th March there was a practical rescue and first aid refresher for club members with a talk by a British Heart Foundation Instructor. On Monday 11th March there was a rescue skills refresher in the club training pool.
On Saturday 9th March it was the Oxygen Administration course for the Southern Region. After a day packed with essential theory and hands on practical sessions 11 divers successfully demonstrated the skills required and are now able to administer oxygen to divers suffering from decompression illness (DCI). A team of SSAC Instructors, Dave Purvis, Dave Sawdon, Jenny and Rob Watkins were joined by BSAC Southern Region Coach Clive Puddifoot to deliver the course to students from accross the Southern region and beyond. Well done to all those who passed the course.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue Training Day
Southsea Sub-aqua Club hosted 19 enthusiastic people who spent a chilly day learning how to rescue a seal, dolphin and pilot whale that had beached themselves on top of Portsdown Hill! As part of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR), trainee Marine Mammal Medics learnt how to 'jump' a seal, move a dolphin and inflate a pontoon to support a whale. SSAC diving instructors Jenny and Rob Watkins are also trained instructors in the skills and techniques required to deal with a marine mammal in distress. For more information visit the BDMLR charity web site www.bdmlr.org.uk/
