SSAC Duke of Edinburgh AwardNine representatives of Southsea Sub-Aqua Club were proud to attend Buckingham Palace to receive Highly Commended certificates by HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh for their work on the Tanks & Bulldozers project as runners up for the 2009 British Sub-Aqua Club Duke of Edinburgh Prize. The award ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the British Sub Aqua Jubilee Trust Harry Gould, Trust Secretary Dr Paul Cragg, Trust member Ernest Crook, and Clare Peddie, Chairman of the British Sub-Aqua Club together with the prize-winning team from the Jurassic Shark 2 project.

The Duke of Edinburgh was introduced to club members and presented everyone with their certificate. Price Philip chatted to the SSAC team about their contribution to the project and their experiences of diving in the UK. After the ceremony, the Trust hosted the teams at a drinks reception followed by dinner at a local restaurant.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Prize is awarded by the British Sub-Aqua Jubilee Trust for the best underwater scientific project carried out by one of its members. The prize is administered by the BSA Jubilee Trust and the Duke himself selects the winner from a short-list of applicants. Find out more about the award on BSAC's website.
